WHO WE ARE
Choose Who You Use is building a coalition to ensure Arizonans get a real choice when it comes to electricity.
The Arizona Energy Competition Act gives energy providers the right to petition the Arizona Corporation Commission for issuance of a certificate to provide regulated competitive retail electric services in Arizona. A 2020 Arizona Supreme Court decision, Johnson Utilities, L.L.C. v. Arizona Corporation Commission confirmed that the Commission must follow laws like the Energy Competition Act.
Right now, Arizona utilities are trying to do it all – they not only maintain the power lines (poles and wires) but also handle outages, emergencies, customer service, billing, and they supply electricity to customers.
Having the utilities continue to manage the poles and wires makes sense. But there is no reason they should have a monopoly on energy supplies. Truckers use the public roads, but we have lots of different trucking companies. Airports are public services, but we have lots of different airlines. You might get your internet service from one provider, but you get to decide the streaming service you subscribe to. Like everything else in your life, you should have a choice in your energy provider.
We believe the best way to build up an accountable, innovative, and service-focused electricity marketplace is to create wider competition and bolster consumer choices and protections. Customers should be able to hire and, just as importantly, fire their provider.
That’s why we invite you to join us in empowering customers to choose an alternative energy supplier.
